When you think of Hemp, you probably think of either something illegal, unhealthy, or only eaten (or worn) by earthy, crunchy types. Alas, that is not so. Manitoba Harvest has created a variety of hemp products that are not only delicious, easy to use, and cook with, but also extremely healthy. Take the Hemp Hearts for instance, which come in organic, or natural, in single serve .9oz packs up to 5lb containers, they are full of protein, omega 3 & 6, as well as fiber. They can be added to salads, soups, cereal, or when you’re baking. We personally tried them in our salads, and cereal, and Dave even ate them right out of the bag, by the spoonful! They’re a surprisingly tasty addition to any meal. I want to add it to my breadcrumb mix to crust fish or chicken with next. Im happy to say I was pleasantly surprised by these little guys. They’re healthier than Flax and Chia seeds. Packing in almost twice the protein, and 8g of Omega 6, while being lower in carbs. But, watch your serving size, as 3tbsp is 170 calories & 1.5g sat fat. I would love to see these come in flavors in the future. Perhaps, garlic or chili spiced. Making an even tastier addition for soups or salads, or to eat straight out of the bag.
Now onto the Hemp oil. Which Manitoba Harvests website claims can make you feel healthier within 30 days, and even offers a challenge on their site. You can check it out HERE. It’s rich in Omega 3, 6, & 9, as well as chlorophyll. It is also a great way to get GLA (Gamma-Linolenic Acid), which studies show can help arthritis, hormonal imbalances, eczema, migraines, and weight management, among many other things. It can even be used in homemade beauty products, for healthier skin and hair! This is a cold pressed oil, and it is recommended to not use it in cooking above 350F, and to keep it fresh it is best refrigerated. It can be used in salad dressings, sauces, dips, and shakes. I used it as an addition to my pasta salad, and it was great. The green color of this oil may be off putting to some people, but the nutty flavor it provides is a pleasant surprise. You only need 1-2tbsp of this oil, to add tons of flavor, and nutrition to your dishes. It comes in sizes ranging from 8oz – 1.07 gallons. It also comes in a soft gel form.
Manitoba Harvest also makes hemp butter, hemp pro fiber, & hemp protein. If you like them on Facebook, you can get a $10 off coupon for a future purchase! I think I am going to use mine to try the dark chocolate hemp protein!
